Our Brisbane to Melbourne Getaway

Kath and I decided that we needed a family holiday in cold old Melbourne during the June Longweekend 2006 (for us it was the 8-13 June). With all of us working we thought we needed a family break and decided on Melbourne to finalise a couple of things from my fathers estate and use that time to also have a family "Veg Out", "Deep Breath", "Relax" and generally have a laid back family time. We flew to Avalon, jumped in a pre-arranged hire car and drove to Geelong for business. After that was sorted it was up to the "Digs" in the Melbourne CBD staying at the Quest Royal Gardens behind the St Vincents Hospital. A great spot with very helpful and friendly staff. We had a two story villa with kitchen, lounge, dining, laundry and toilet. Upstairs were two bedrooms with ensuites. Joshua and I went to three AFL games while Kathy and Rebekah went out Warehouse shopping and general shopping till the were exhausted. We nearly had to use a crowbar to get Rebekah out of the Queen Victoria Markets. Costs for the trip were pretty good - Airfares via Jetstar for four of us was around $800, accommodation was around $1200, two days of hire cars was around $100 plus food and drinks (many drinks). Thats about it really except to say that Melbourne is a great spot to visit. The footy there is exceptional and the passion in which the Melburnians view the footy is remarkable - enjoy the pics. Yes, its full time at the MCG for the Tigers V Roos game. The clock shows its 4:30ish and yes, that's 4:30ish in the fecking day and it looks like its midnight. The stuff you can see behind the scoreboard is FOG. The top temperature of the day was 5 degrees C and it was absolutely freezing all day.

Telstra Dome Spirit Prices

Had to take a picture of the Spirit Prices at the Telstra Dome - unbelievable is the only word I can utter here. I think the staff at the venue are even embarrassed about the charges themselves. After I took this picture I was confronted by a venue official who said that because of current security problems it was a secruity threat for me to take this picture. I think the only threat here is how much patrons are getting ripped off by the vultures who manage these venues. And by the way, if you think you are getting Bundy Rum and coke, think again. The Venue gets a kickback by selling another brand of imported rum. This rum tastes shocking and is a waste of money.

Inside the Telstra Dome Melbourne. Josh and I went to three AFL games while we were in Melbourne for the June Long Weekend. This was the first time that we went to the Telstra Dome and to say it is spectacular is an understatement. The venue is absolutely awesome. We were at the Friday Night game between Essendon and Geelong. The temperature inside the Dome was 14 Degrees C. The temperature outside was 8.

We stayed at the Quest Fitzroy Gardens while we stayed in Melbourne next to the Exhibition Gardens behind St Vincents Hospital. Rooms were great with everything we needed (kitchen, lounge, dining and a couple of bedrooms). The "Digs" were close to the Free City Circle Trams. Ours was the bottom R/H unit.
